Top 10 Salaries For UK Jobs

Monday

By Amanda Pavis

Although there is no definitive 'Top 10' in terms of salary, since many companies offer good salaries and then top up the salary with bonuses or company shares, increased pension pot etc, there are some jobs that are definitely well paid, although they can be hard to secure an opening in!

The key issue to note here is that this is the top 10 list of salaries, so salaries are for staff/company directors etc. Celebrities and entrepreneurs do not tend to have salaries, they share the profits or simply take the profits, so this list does not include pop stars or general celebrities, it is more focussed on 'real' jobs!

Chief Executive or Managing Director of a company has to be the most lucrative salary, with some banking bosses still taking in well over a million pounds per year, with all sorts of golden handshakes on offer as well.

Salaries paid to very successful media stars such as Jonathan Ross and his ilk are again in excess of £1 million per year.

However, there are only a very few people paid these kinds of salaries, so which career options offer more realistic openings?

Well next on the list is barristers, who at the top of his/her profession is virtually able to name their own salary and may be headhunted from company to company. Although extensive training is involved, it is a lucrative, although highly competitive career.

Doctors, surgeons and consultants will all earn around 6 figure sums and often do not have to work a full week, with on call time being set off against their working week.

Plastic surgeons operating within the private sector can also earn phenomenal amounts, since they can set their own operating charges.

Dentistry and veterinary surgery are also two good career options, where realistic salaries may start at £30-40k, but soon after you can be looking at £100,000 upwards.

A career in local government or the Civil Service can also be full of rewards to the chosen few, with many earning in excess of £100,000 per year, but in reality for every officer who earns that there are thousands who don't!

Finally being a head teacher will earn you around £50 k upwards, which is a relatively tidy sum, but on the other hand, there is fierce competition for most head teachers jobs and the work can be quite demanding.

But with such varied careers offering such good salaries, at least there are plenty of options to consider!
