How to Find the Right Job for You in the UK

Finding the right job is never the easiest task. However, with the current unemployment levels in the UK, competition levels are higher than ever and ideal jobs may be scarce. Therefore you have to make sure that you are applying in the right places, saying the correct things and getting seen.

This will be more obvious for some than it will be others. For example if you've been an accountant for 20 years you're probably not going to be looking for a massive career shift. However, anybody coming straight out of university might be a little less sure.

You also need to choose where you're happy to work. Most people look to stay close to home and find an easily commutable role. However, for others the drive to get the right job means that they are more than happy to visit pastures new and expand their search to large cities like Manchester, London or Glasgow.
With the basics covered you have to then actually start the search. This is where it gets more challenging.
Whilst UK job hunters would have traditionally headed towards employment agencies and get signed up and see what positions were on the boards, today the Internet has added a whole new dimension. Now there are huge job sites dedicated to providing you with the latest positions right throughout the country.
This of course makes the whole process a great deal easier. You can search within your industry, area or even for a specific job title if you wish. It opens up new opportunities and can help to make sure that you don't get left behind in what is fast becoming a hugely competitive market.
By using the internet you can sign up for services, send off your CV to perspective employers and get email updates from within your particular search bracket. You can of course also go straight to the employers themselves. If there is a company that you particularly want to work for, either due to their locality or reputation, then a quick trip to their website can yield results.
Websites now often feature en employment section where the latest positions are listed. They also have all of the required contact details, so even if nothing is listed you could still take a chance and send in your CV with a covering letter.
Even if you're having a struggle to find any kind of job, you need to make sure that you remain reasonably selective. Whilst you want to be getting a salary, you don't want to find yourself in a dead-end career that you hate or in a part of the UK that you simply can't settle in. Unless you are looking exclusively for temporary employment, you have to be a little selective.
During your job search make sure that you take advantage of any feedback you receive. So if somebody suggests that your CV could do with being updated a little, don't take that as a slight against your writing abilities, see it as an opportunity for future applications.
Having a decent CV will certainly come in handy during your search, so too will a persuasive covering letter. Make sure you have both before getting in too deep and certainly be prepared to send it out to a fair few companies before the job offers start rolling in.
